Active School Flag
Active School Flag
Ardkeenan NS are excited to be working towards our first ever Active Schools Flag in the academic year 2024/2025. We aim to build upon the great work the school is already doing in the area of Physical Activity and Wellbeing.
The Active School Flag was launched by the Department of Education in 2009. The Active School Flag (ASF) is awarded to schools that strive to achieve a physically educated and physically active school community. In order to be awarded the Active School Flag schools must:
Commit to a process of self-evaluation in terms of the PE programmes and physical opportunities that they offer
Plan and implement a series of changes that will enhance PE and extracurricular provision and promote physical activity.
Our Active School Committee is made up of students from 1st to 6th class. We meet on monthly to organise initiatives for our school.
What do the Active School Flag Committee do?
Attend ASF meetings.
Encourage everyone to become active.
Help Set up equipment for whole school activities
Organise competitions and surveys
Come up with ideas throughout the year by speaking to their classes and bringing the ideas to ASF committee meetings.
Inform the whole school of what we will be focusing on in the next month during the monthly school assembly.
